We dont stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing!

The above quotation struck a chord with me as only this week I had my first go of Nintendo Wii. and it was great.

I have never had much time for computer games, despite my kids trying to convince me they were fun.

I was brought up with board games like monopoly, snakes and ladders, draughts and other games like dominoes and of course my all-time favourite, carrom.

I no longer play Monopoly, snakes and ladders, draughts and dominoes.

However I do still play carom, maybe not as often as there is always something I have to do and it seems quite self-indulgent to get out the carrom board when there is washing or dusting to be done.

However people who have bought a Nintendo Wii are claiming all sorts of health benefits and I must admit I felt quite exhausted after a few rounds of virtual tennis and golf.

The boxing I was quite good at, but hopeless with baseball.

We used to call this game rounders.

Nintendo are adding more games to the next generation of Wii.

I do hope they add carrom.

Despite the fun I had with the Wii, carrom is still my favourite game.

The carrom board I have is over 14 years old.

I don’t know if the plastic Wii wands will last that long.
