Carrom player from the 1930’s

Loading ...I found the picture below.
It’s from an American version of Carrom.
They use short sticks or cues instead of flicking with their fingers.
They also use counters with a hole in the middle.
I’ve never played the game, But I’d be interested to hear from anyone who has played this game and the one more usually played in the UK and Asia.
Is it easier?
Does it require as much skill?
